Welcome to the Japanese Exploratory class! This quarter, we will be learning about Japanese Culture covering a broad spectrum of topics including Food, Education, Traditions, and Anime/Manga. We will also be comparing/contrasting what is learned to your local culture.

The focus of this quarter is to continue to learn Katakana-focusing on writing the characters and learning to read and write words.

This week, I want you to start putting your Hiragana reading practice to use. Please click on the picture and practice reading the attached story out loud.

Bonus: Find words that are supposed to be in Katakana rather than Hiragana, we will talk about why after.

Also, please go over all hiragana characters by doing Realkana recognition practice and black boxing in your composition book. If you are confident, try practicing writing out the chart and time yourself. All 46 characters within 1:15 would be excellent! がんばれ!

Practice writing the blends neatly following the stroke order. Click on the tree to go to the chart of blends. A blended sound is made up of the consonant from the big character and the vowel sound of the smaller character.

Please perform the following actions:

- Write out the entire Hiragana and Katakana Chart by memory and identify any characters you struggled with. Blackbox each row you may have struggled with. 

- Spend at least 10 minutes a day on realkana.com for both Katakana and Hiragana.

- Practice reading the passage out loud (shared on April, 20th), working on reading the characters as words more than individual sounds.
